Nether Glenny estate lies facing south on the lower slopes of the Menteith Hills,in the Trossachs of Scotland, and which carries a flock of Scottish Blackface breeding sheep with lambs in spring.
The main house and cottages command beutiful views over the Lake of Menteith and surrounding Forth Valley. Adjacent is the Queen Elizabeth Forest which affords delightful walks including a five mile walk over the hills to Callander.
Just below the house is the lake of Menteith with its historic Inchmahome Priory built in the 12th Century, and which can be visited on the main island of the lake.
For those interested in history, the whole area has a great deal to offer with castles and other places of interest to be visited, including the King Robert the Bruce Heritage Centre just outside Stirling on the site of the famous Battle of Bannockburn. Rob Roy McGregor is buried at Balquhidder, 10 miles North of Glenny.
Apart from forest and hill walks, golfing, fishing and sailing are available in the area, and many excellent restaurants and pubs are within a few miles distance, including the lake of Menteith Hotel with its restaurant. Beautiful Loch Katrine is 25 minutes by car with its pleasure steamer cruising the loch.
The Lake of Menteith is stocked annually with Rainbow and Brown Trout ranging from 1-6lbs in weight. Fly fishing (only) can be arranged at a reasonable cost by booking at the Fishery Office, and can usually be booked during your stay. Prior booking, however, can be arranged if required, by telephoning the fishery in advance.
There is a supermarket in Aberfoyle, three miles away, and also a bank, post office and newsagent, etc. Aberfoyle also has a main Tourist Information Centre. Excellent shopping can be done in Stirling (www.thethistles.com), about 15 miles away, and Glasgow and Edinburgh are easily accessible at about 25 and 35 miles from Glenny respectively.
